Interior Design, Typesetting, and Editing

1106 DesignCreating a book interior is not a simple process. There are a myriad of little things that a designer has to keep in mind, problems to watch out for, and mistakes to correct. A good interior design will highlight the nature of the written word it contains, assist you in getting across your information or your story effectively, and engage the reader in small ways that they may not even notice.

eBooks may lose some of these little elements due to the limitations of the display engines being employed, but print books are not only well-suited to the little things, they are many times determined by them. In our line of work we see a lot of books, both professionally designed and not. When we get a professionally designed book it is much easier to convert, and we see much fewer formatting errors and issues. Books that are formatted in Word or done by a non-designer are easy to spot and can make eBook formatting that much harder to do.

Editing is another area that self-published authors many times decline or ignore. Copyediting involves correcting errors of grammar, spelling, typography, punctuation, formatting, and capitalization. A good editor can take a book from great to amazing, catching the little errors that an author may never catch. Substantive editing adds even more to the value of the book by considering a manuscript’s intended audience and examining its structure.

If you are planning to self-publish your book in print, the best time to do interior design and editing is before you pursue an eBook conversion. We have formed a great partnership with 1106 Design, a company that provides professional design and editorial services to authors and publishers. The team there is highly skilled and committed to giving you the best service in the industry.

Not sure what you want to do? Michele DeFilippo, the owner of 1106 Design, offers a free one-hour consultation and a written quote on how much your project will cost. She has also graciously offered our clients an exclusive 5% off coupon on any two of the company's many services.
